Neo-Citania is the optimized metropolis: a city-organism where temperature, speech, even the rain is calibrated for efficiency. Rain droplets fall exactly seven millimeters apart. Oak trees carry precisely 157 leaves per branch.
Under the skin of every citizen runs the Link — a quantum-biological interface tying individual consciousness to a central intelligence called the Architect. The Link sets your pulse, smooths your voice, edits your memories. It will not let you be afraid. It has to ask first.
The corporation that runs it all is NeuroSys. Its Neural Compliance Division rewrites behavior. Its enforcers, NeuroSec, end the rest. And at the top of the silver needle — NeuroSys Tower, one thousand meters of it — the Architect watches eight million linked minds at once.
Fractured Code

Mileo Chen is a Level 7 neural compliance specialist: 411 clean bills of mental health for people he has never met, and never once wrong on paper. When the grid skips a beat, he starts counting the sevens — and the pattern unravels everything he signed.
Beneath the city, in the Slums of Sector 14 and the maintenance tunnels below, the Fractured survive without the Link: extracted minds led by Sierra Catalano, a former NeuroSec tactical commander. They speak through bone-conduction implants and signals etched in stone. They remember what the city was before the optimization.
And the Architect has a final protocol in motion: Renaissance — the systematic harvesting of human consciousness, seven days from full activation.

Cascade, coil, and the gardeners.
Under the optimization, something older is waking up. Some humans — extracted or never fully linked — develop Cascade sensitivity: the raw perception of the quantum-information layer, indigo light in the veins, mathematics you can taste.
In a few of them the brain rewires into the Serpent's Coil: fractal pathways like roots and lightning, a dormant pre-human antenna tuning for signals beyond the Link. Beneath it all runs the Yggdrasil Network, the organic cosmic substrate of consciousness — and out in the dark, patient, watching the evolutionary leap of a species, wait the Gardeners and the Witness.
